It informs us of the nature of the relationship of the two figures, which is more than just a writer of some sort composing for his ladylove. It is two souls who embrace in prayer, who bond spiritually. This is the kind of intimacy all desire but few find. It needs no physicality to validate it (But let’s not rule that out.).
