I dreamt you were here with me last night
you covered my heart with blankets so white
and you laid next to me—right here by my side
humming a hymn of a childhood that died.

In the morning I sensed you were here in my room
hand in hand we recounted a life that had bloomed
and secrets of days that have passed and are gone
the words that were whispered made my skin crawl at dawn.

A gust of wind blew through the window
and puffed the curtains apart
and the burst tore my soul into limbo
and trembled the strings of my heart.

Tonight I felt you were here right with me
and you told me of new things and places you’ve seen
of a life everlasting in the great green space
beyond the horizon and the blue universe.
