THE DAYS FLEW FAST
The days flew fast in morning lights
the evenings chased so many nights
I’ve watched the seasons come and go
the constant change of ebb and flow
the autumn leaves, the springtime bloom
winter rest and summers plume.
I’ve danced through decades
seen life change
seen great beauty and scary strange
I’ve walked through storms and sunny days
and found my peace in simple ways.
The years have taught me how to bend
to cherish friends and make amends
to share a laughter and tears to shed
to give an ear and hold a hand
to be grateful for all I have
the dreams that blossomed
and those now dead.
Seventy-one years seem very long
a lifetime stitched into a song
with every note and turning page
I get older with my age
but in my heart I am still the same
with same old zest for fun and games.
So here’s to life, be it sweet and long
to walking tall and standing strong
with open heart and mind so clear
I greet my birthday with a cheer.
