I was invited to a fundraiser event for Precious Life Shelter, at St. Isidore Historical Plaza in Los Alamitos, California. It was a precious afternoon for a worthwhile cause.

The shelter is a 3-phase program that provides a safe, environment for pregnant women who wish to keep their babies, but face financial, physical and emotional emergencies with no place to live. The women are taught basic life skills and are given the tools to become independent, productive and self-supporting.

The shelter does not accept government funding, which encourages dependency on the system. Instead, they have been proudly operating for the past 30 years on donations from the community and running a thrift shop.

We were given a tour of the facilities. A cluster of converted family bungalows, with day care facility and lovely grounds. It was clean and cozy and safe. The staff are all volunteers doing God’s work. There is a saying in Hebrew: He who saves one soul as if saved the whole world.

I spent the afternoon with my good friends and art posse, each unique artist in their own way: Kelly, Michael, Edwardo and Stuart, our resident Brit with an Israeli paratrooper red Barrett. That’s a story for another time. We had a great BBQ dinner and delicious sample of California wine and beer and good music. Even the sun came out finally.

Here is to Life that is so precious 🥂
