Soon the days will grow shorter
and the evening will come fast
I’ll sit here by the fire
to warm in its cast.
Soon the night will fall
the light will go away
just as you have done–
you never meant to stay.
Soon as sure the winter
will return to my heart
and once again I’ll be here
lonely and apart.

That Was Then | Now That You Are Gone

Beautiful writing Kira!
Beautiful!
Beautiful!
Lovely!
love can be as short as the day…and often is…and it leaves us sitting by a fire that has gone out, shivering, alone.
beautifully haunting poem.
Poignant.
Have a beautiful new year. Thank you for sending your lovely poem.
As the wise old owl Jacob says, tis a beautiful poem. Relatable to both the death of a loved one and a loved that has upped sticks and toodled off with a newer model.
Loved this 🙂
Very well penned, I like the structure of the write, the rhyming and the careful use of words here. There is a somewhat sad or feeling of despondency in this write – but it comes together with hope in heart and fireplace. Fire always provides warmth, somewhat soothing place to warm your aching cold heart. Thank you for writing and expressing Kira, great reading you.
a composition full of longing with excellent imagery
‘I’ll sit here by the fire
