Today marks 77 years of Israel’s independence, but our hearts are broken. We are a nation ablaze—fires rage through our forests, sorrow burns in our cities. Yet from the ashes we will rise. Nothing and no one will erase us.

Fire whispers in the hills,
wind is screaming with heat and chills
the earth is burning once again
hearts are breaking from the pain.
Trees ablaze, a house falls flat
the cities cry— we live with that
but from the dust our hope still grows
a people strong despite the blows.
“When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned.” (Isaiah 43:2)
