You said you want me to be your rose
to sniff and kiss me from lips to toes
like a butterfly in fragrant meadows
your bright wings would scatter shadows.

When dawn arrives and dew me covers
you’d drink my crimson as you hover
and when the sun bears out her womb
you’d watch me come into full bloom.

You said you want me to be your rose
to thrill again my heart that froze
you’d take me thus with barb and thorn
and mend the pedals that have been torn.
